HELP!! Need Clutch Replaced

Stealership is quoting over $4300 for parts+ labor (23hrs). Even a few shops I have called all claim a miniumum of 17 hrs ($3500) Any suggestions???? I live in OC and these prices seem crazy..

I can't help you, but if you are down in there you might as well do some motor or turbo upgrade work!

Which one? I can get you a small deal at Newport Beach Porsche. Call Jon in service and tell him Robert sent you from the PCA Registry. $4300 is on the high end but he should be able to knock off 10% to 15%. Not bad for parts and labor at the dealership. They do great work IMHO. They installed my Triple Disk and it works great. If cost me $2000 just for the install with a few parts (bearing, sleeve, LWFW bolts).

I've got to open a satellite shop is So Cal if they are getting $4300 for a clutch install. 6-8 hours is a normal time we charge plus parts (which if just the clutch pilot bearing and throwout bearing are replaced is dirt cheap. Even with a new pressure plate should be a little over $1000). All you do is disconnect the drive shaft and drop the tranny. The slave is a pain but overall the job is just 1 day. If places are talking about pulling the motor, RUN!!!!! Just stupid mechanics trying to find more ways to damage other things in your car.....

DIY…LWFW & Clutch replacement took me around 12 hours with no prior experience. The only difficult process was reinstalling the slave cylinder. How does a Stealership quote 23 hours for a clutch replacement ?

I recently replaced my clutch. Was 2000 for clutch (Sachs and LWFW) and 1000 for labor.

Newport Beach Porsche does not drop the engine, tranny only.

Clutch Replacement

I had mine changed at the dealer just a couple of months ago - BIG mistake. It seems the official porsche method of changing the clutch includes dropping the engine and they CLAIM about 24 hours of labor on that(at $105/hr I think!). My grand total was 4650 - so if you're total is 4300 with tax - you're better off than I was.

Also I'd like to note that the 4650 was AFTER I haggled with them and got them to discount it by 10%. There were more parts than a clutch involved also. They "noticed" a mangled clutch fork while they were down there and changed it out. The original quote was $2500.

While we're on the subject - can anyone recommend a good Porsche mechanic in Austin, TX?

Thanks for all your feedback guys! Car is a CPO vehicle that I have only had for a few months and rarley driven. The car has had a few other issuse not covered under warrenty which have been disappointing . Clutch was very stiff when I got it, but I didnt think it would go out so quick, also has a bad accumulator which deaslership will not cover. CPO warrenty has been usless and not worth the money up until now! Car has been sitting for the past few weeks and I just noticed it is leaking collant from front left corner. Very Annoying!

Take my word and talk to Jon at newport beach porsche. 949-673-0900. I take my 2005 Turbo S Cab and they do excellent work. He will take car of you. If you want a non dealership to work on the car use the following:

Stugart Performance (costa Mesa)
Hergenheimer (Lake Forest)
GMG (santa Ana)

No, he runs the service department. I would not send you to a service advisor. He is the main man there. Give him a call.

If you happen to take it to Newport- the only Tech that I trust with my GT2 is Stan Reed. 30+ years in the business. Was the main trouble shooter at McKenna.
