Broken Shock Mount
Broken Shock Mount
I have had the PSS9 system with Racers Group Sway bars installed on my '02 996tt for about a month. I have been very happy with the setup, my car is 25 1/8th inch ride height and the stiffness is one notch off of maximum. I ran it at the track last weekend and on the way home noticed a rather loud thump from the front right suspension, as I drove on it got progressively worse. It turns out the stock upper rubber mount the shock goes into failed. The shock pushed up through the mount. The folks that did the install say it failed because the stock units are weak.
Do any of you guys that deal with these suspensions on a daily basis have an opinion on this? I am wondering if improper install on the PSS9 caused the failure. If the stock mounts suck what is a good replacement?
Has anyone seen anything like this?

It sounds like the washer that abuts the rubber mount on the underside was possibly left out. If this washer is not installed the shock will work its way through the mount in a few weeks. With the RUF PSS-9 kit, the washer is a factory or OEM part that is re-used during the PSS-9 installation and not supplied with the kit. The early RUF insructions omitted this step and it led to several failures (mine included), such as you describe.
