CEL- Air pump issue?

Has anyone had a CEL for the "air pump" not working properly. I don't even know what the air pump does? The guy said it is most likely an emission issue that is covered under warranty. Haven't taken it to Porsche yet.

liquidcool is infamous around these parts
Could you be referring to the Secondary Air Injection pump? It runs based on a thermostat to preheat the catalytic converter and there's a sensor than will trigger the CEL if it doesn't detect the airflow from the pump after several cold starts. If this is your issue, you can get it fixed at your leisure as it's purely for emissions. But you'll want the exact code to find out for sure before taking any road trips.

Liquidcool,

This sounds like the words that were coming out of his mouth. All I heard was "blah blah blah, blah, air pump, blah, blah, cold start, blah blah.." Very informative. We reset the CEL. When it comes back on, I will take it to Porsche. Thanks a lot.

Has anyone removed the air pump if you are not running cats? Seems to just be taking up space? How detrimental is the CEL, does it affect prerformance?
