Yes, it looks funny, but at the track or on the dyno it makes a HUGE difference.

Yes, but not in the air-intake. The correct place is on the intercooler.

I know what I said, and I know what hydrolock is thanks for the Wiki entry. A little water going in doesn't make a difference otherwise you couldn't possibly drive in rain, and most drains out the holes in the bottom of the filter housing anyway. It makes a noticible difference around the filter where the air enters into the engine, and the same for packed around the intake plenum and manifold after the intercoolers. Good luck trying to pack around the intercoolers on these cars - it's not worth the effort or the resulting water dripping out the back when you go to stage.

They should try dry ice instead of regular ice. No water dripping or hydrolock issues.
