Can Coil Packs and Plugs Be Tested After Removal?

Had coil packs and plugs done today. I was experiencing general mediocre performance, a slight miss on de-acceleration, stumbling around 5500RPM, poor throttle response and increased turbo lag. All of these issues have been resolved by this R&R.
My question is to further understand precisely what the issue was can the old coil packs and plugs now removed be tested/diagnosed?

All thoughts most welcome.

Cheers,

J

coils can be looked at for cracks... plugs are obvious...

I agree with Markski...bad coils usually have a crack. In my opinion for optimum performance on a hard driven (especially high hp) 996TT, coils should be changed every 30k. Lucky they are not too pricey. At this duration you will almost always find cracking. If not done some cars will be fine, but I bet at the first sign of missfire the culprit will be coils.

Porsche/Bosch have not given a solution for this problem. 996 and 997 coils are interchangable. Good news is that power delivery wise they are pretty awesome.

Just a soft spot for me since I could build a sky scraper or save the planet with all of the bad coils I have seen and heard about.

Thank you for your reply guys. The reason I ask is because both plugs and coils upon physical inspection appear fine. In fact the coils could almost pass for new & the plugs appear clean & consistent. Undeniably though the performance improvement is astounding.

Best,

J
