btw if you want a used engine check LA Dismantlers, it's a porsche junkyard in LA.

thx eric... I am going to let Dan handle it all. I want to get ahold of European Car and see if they are interested in covering the project, get SpeedGallery some good publicity, take some cool pics, and have fun with it.

So can you just go to a dealer and ask to buy a crated engine or do you have to find one used or on the "gray market"?

depends what you want to pay, the dealer will charge you an arm and a leg for a motor. You'd be better finding a used one or one out of a wrecked car.

Don't forget to drop the "S" and make it just a Boxster, then cars will wonder how they got beat by a 2.7L Boxster.

Yep, that engine can be 'shoe-horned' in there.....pretty tight.
It's been done by a number of people in the country, including Roock SS.
As I recall, there's a few issues to sort out inc electrical (wiring harness, etc).
Good luck on the effort, 986 is a great car, just needed more punch
