Ok as I have noted , I have had some transmission noise in the higher gears uphill, in lower rpm for a while: so finally my 40,000 mile service is due, I take out the Porsche workshop specialist so he can hear it. It seems that the transmission shaft (carbon ?) to the the front wheels can wear badly as mine has, it seems it is a part defect so Porsche has replaced the whole FWD shaft with another part number fyi. The new driveshaft costs circa $3,250 alone without labor. At least its not the engine but looks like there is a design fault on the 996 TT here....

Nobody else running high HP has worn out their FWD driveshaft ?
