Is the 997S 3.8 an oil pan or dry sump system???

I'm surprised that it is not more powerful...doesn't a 360 have roughly 400hp?

Yep...answered my question...the 997 3.8 is a wet oil system...(has oil pan)....such a shame. Glad to have my dry sump 3.6... :D

Dry sump system means there is a separate oil tank that holds the bulk of the oil rather than an oil pan. There are various pumps that continously pump the oil throughout the motor making the motor much less susceptible to oil starvation under heavy lateral G's. Keeps the oil where it needs to be. Starvation can be a problem with oil pan type motors under sustained lateral G loads. That's why most race motors use the dry sump.

That does not mean the 997 won't have one...The motor may be based off the 997 3.8, but if they do it right, they will use a dry sump system and lighten and strengthen rods, valves and pistons like they do on the current model..
