no problem ill deliver the message to tony.. i might see him in a couple of days.

UPDATE:
car with new battery started yesterday and led me to believe that all is well.

however today i come to crank the car and it doesnt start.

what i did last night was when reconnecting the new battery, i disconnected the sound systems connections to the battery, to basically rule the system out and get it out of the equation.

so today i attempt to start the car and to my surprise it doesnt crank! honestly even worse than ysterdays attempts.. bat level is super low. alarm didnt even work this time around. Whats going on!? i barely heard the ticking starter noise this time around.

obviously something is wrong, and is drawing current from the battery when the car is off.
any ideas??

thanks again.

yup...i figured.. how do i check such a thing??
also, i need to take the car back to my tuner for other reasons...
hypothetically if i get the battery recharged and the car turned on.... and we all agree their is a short somewhere... will the car die out while im driving... or is it a safe bet to drive it to my tuner.. an hour away..

First thing I would check is the ground...these have been known to loosen or wear causing a drain. The you could pull most of the fuses (accessories) and adding them one by one. Put a meter on the electrical system and watch for amp usage.

Good luck

No guarantees here, but it would be very unlikely to die on the way. The alternator will be charging the battery while you drive, so unless the draw from the short is drawing more than the alternator is charging, you're fine as long as you don't shut the car off until you get there.

Good luck tracking down that short. I guess you need to start playing private investigator. If the short is strong enough that it drained a new battery overnight, it must have been something recent. What have you changed in the last 2 weeks?

only thing changed within the last 2 weeks was clutch kit and epl tune with injectors and fuel pump... i dont see how that can affect it, but you never know...
i got off the phone with tony before and will take the car to him tomorow.. he needs to look at it anyway so hell take a look and try to figure out where the short is coming from.

right now i got the car started again.. ill let it run/idle for an hour or so and monitor voltages just to make sure the alternator is supplying more than the draw...

Dude you have got a serious draw on your car for it to drain that fast. Not to worry.....do you have a multimeter handy? Like previous post states please check all battery connections and ground to chassis. Any corrosion? Check for any voltage drops with meter first....next to test for draw set your meter to dc amperage....usually a red 10A. Insert red leed in 10A position on meter. Must have key off and out. Make sure all dome lights, trunk light, and hood lights are off. make sure nothing is plugged into cig lighter. Your hood and door triggers can be closed by using a small screw driver to activate lach to close position. Disconnect possitive battery leed. Put your meter leads in series with the battery positive connection. Meter red leed to battery side, meter black leed to car side. You will have to wait at least 5 min for your car to go to sleep once you connect your meter. You will see the draw dropping off as time goes by. GM cars take forever with thier Serial bus data and new lan systems...anyways on a healthy car 10 to 30 milliamps is good. 40 with aftermarket equip. You may have to arm your oem alarm to see a complete sleep mode. once you get a stable reading...start pulling fuses till you see the draw drop.
What I would like to know when this started happening had anybody just worked on the car? Maybe with aftermarket gear added? From the sound of all this it should not be hard to find with such a big draw.
To test your charging system you will test differently.....With battery reconnected and vehicle RUNNING ...check your voltage with your meter set to DC voltage. meter right at the battery post ...then take another reading at the battery connections to the battery to see if there is a voltage drop from bad battery connections to batery post. If so clean terminals and connections and retighten.........Next.... turn everything on in vehicle while running...headlights (high beams) , wipers on high, hazards, A/c on high. Now recheck voltage at battery...should hang above 12v prefferably @ 12.5v or higher. To charge a battery voltage needs to be 1 volt above comacitance..13v or more. Anyhow if your seeing 11's or 10's charging system is a problem......if you get stuck or need further help call me....work#772-692-0469....ask for Robert. I know situations as these are frustrating but fixable......

update: had car idling for a while.. voltage slowly dipped from 13.5 at bat to 13.1 and eventually 12.8ish... then i turned ac, lights and hazards on and slowly it was sputtering and then shut off.

soo i would say that alternator is bad, however it was changed last year by porsche... and then how would bat die overnight if alternator would be bad.. i guess their is no correlation between the two.

so something drawing current is still the problem... its doing it with the car on and off obviously.

and you know your having a bad day when all this **** goes bad and then your voltmeter stops reading..lol...

at this point car doesnt crank (again) battery is toast. im thinking of towing the car to conneticut (tony) since i need to get it there anyway..itl save me a ride i guess..

Your car turned off? You definately have got issues that at this point you will need a shop to handle especially with no multimeter in hand.......I could give you one last pointer..... while its in your garage.....first basic rule....check ALL fuses in car.

wross i did. it looks ok ( the one thats connected to the chassis, right..? next to the battery. i disconected my system from the battery terminals so that cant be an issue. some local guy just ran some tests and concluded their is something drawin power...

i dont think they are competent enough to really figure it out...
