Popcorn Detonation Noises after 1 bar on cold days 18g setup

Resolved, Thx Markski !

18g setup, wont hit 1.2bar goes into Dead Pedal at WOT ( ecu cutoff is set at 1.5bar so thats not the restriction)

Odd situation for about a year now, its not traction control or psm IMO(keep it off)

Sometimes works fine, other times I have to lower the boost to 1.0-1.1

When i drive out of my driveway with a cold engine and try to hit more then usual throttle, the ignition dies and requires me to blip the key on occasion, but mainly when first drive of the day.

Is there something i can try to look for using my Durametric Software to catch ?

Do you have a LWFW ? If so thats probably it as you let off the gas and or go into neutral...

You may have more than one thing going on at once. What Markski said is a good chance culprit for the ignition dying.
As for the boost issue:
-What plugs do you use and how old are they?
-What MAF are you using?
-Is the problem worse in cold weather making more boost or like you said worse in higher load or gear situations?
-Lastly I would try to re-create the problem for a few miles then read out the ECU. Look for misfires and anything else. Sometimes it will take a while for the ECU to record it. You can use the Durametic to diagnose but you may need to call them or Todd to walk you through it.

just some more food for thought...what fuel system are you running? It is possible you are running out of fuel (your system rails/injectors) can not deliver what is requested...it feels like the car dies although this should throw codes....

1.2 bar on the dash or on the Profec? Definitely sounds like you may be out of fuel, or the Profec B is hitting it's warning limit and pulling back a ton of boost. Plugs could also be a culprit worth checking for the startup issue.

My ignition will just die and i must lift off completely and then reapply pedal to regain throttle.

Happens in all gears that allow enough boost, traction control usually kicks throttle back and brings it back on its own. So really thinking its something else. My mechanic caught it once but is pointing to traction issues. I ran it in 4th gear last nite ( 45 degrees outside ) and it still occurred.

Hey Dean, What's up man!!!??? I'll be around all week, Give me a call if you're around. I definitely have traction issues and I am hitting the rev limiter. Are you sure thats not you're problem?

Its the LWFW IF its happening of throttle like he did say in his post....
He can turn of the greddy and run on springs to see if its the problme your describing...
someone wiht a good pair of eyes needs to see the car before another tuner bashing begins LOL Im sure its a human error...

Like I always say when a kit from a good tuner is acting up it's always something small or stupid. Agreed that good eyes should take a look.

If that is the case Todd can fix it with a few quick edits of his tune. A few short runs with the Durametric hooked up should point the problem out. We had a similar one when we where running Tiltons lightest flywheel, the car would stall under heavy vacuum or deceleration. Todd was able to look at the logs and make a correction to a table or two to temporarily solve the problem while we waited for a heavy flywheel to get cut.

I really doubt it its a software problem.... my question is if this was happening before the kit was installed... or after... and if so how long afterwards...
ALso, was the LWFW installed at the same time...

Sounds like the throttle body shutdown. Are you sure you have the boost controller set properly?Where are you checking peak boost on the gauge or boost controller?Don't trust the gauge on the dash.If it is stalling when you jump off the gas or in neutral it is probably the LWFW as others have said. How many miles on the plugs and what type and where are they gapped at?

also there have been recalls on some of the Greddy units so check the serial number, this was the problem with my boost issues.

He can run the car wiht the greddy off on WG 12 psi springs only .. so getting around the greddy is NO big deal... The TB does not shut down on the proto ecu... and I doubt hes doing 1.5+ bars... it would kaboom by now on pump....
I really think its the LWFW... assuming it happens only when he gets off gas...

RCNJ is infamous around these parts
DW,
Didn't you have a similar issue with your GT640 kit before you upgraded to 18g's? What does John @ Protosport have to say about this issue?
