Tim -

I will also chime in that after riding around in one of our customers track prepped Supras with some weight removed and a set of Motons among other upgrades. It handled many times greater than even I expected, and most if all of the Porsches running in the session that day (aside from a widebody 930 with I believe 13-14" wide rims on the back.). I was impressed. Weight wise stock tha cars are very similar, in most cases I would believe the 996 can be made about 150-200lbs lighter, however most owners don't bother looking at this aspect.

I also wanted to comments on the prices, For under 20k you can have a high 9 second reliable Turbo with some basic bolt-ons. A full restoration including the best of everything all around is what normally runs 75-90K+.

Sean, with all due respect, you're an outsider looking in...Tim knows about 100000000000000 more about the Supra, market, mod cost, etc...than you and I combined. I agree that you can roll 1,000 rwhp in a Supra for about 40k (that includes the cost of the car).

You are right about the value...and the interior

Whats quite funny is one of the fastest 6spd Supras in the world still drives his car to work a few days a week, I feel bad for anyone who decides to try and give him a pull on the way home LOL.

I agree, if you want to built a mint TT, then 70k for sure...but if you don't want the best of the best...it can be built far cheaper.

From a 60-180 roll....I wouldn't want anything other than a Supra...

What exactly does the Supra lack that makes it "not even close"??

Tim

No doubt the supra is one of the best Mod cars out there. In stock form it is definitely underpowered barely able to crack mid 13's. When heavily modded, it has incredibly high hp, but all the power is at the top end and yes around a track with a high powered supra is an excersize in control. This is not opinion, this is just physics due to the one large single turbo. The power comes on like the old a 930, Bam! And like D33PBLUE said around you go for a 360 view. I have seen it all to often. And I thought this was common knowledge. The fastest lap time for a modded supra is 7:49. This is heavily modded not stock. The fastest time for a modded 996tt is 7:15. An eternity.

As for quality of build, the only japanese car that I have seen equal late model p-cars in interior and build quality are the NSX and the high end lexus 400's, not a supra.

I agree, Supra modded with about the same or less then a 996 and the Supra is going to win all day long. Hi-rev, big powerband, good reliability on big boost, good weight, good gearing, etc....

I'm trying to sell my 1000hp Supra now and pick up a stockish 996tt just because I want something different. Not because I want a faster car, I'd go to jail if got anything quicker.

send me a Pm if interested.
