clutch question
clutch question
about 2 months ago i had my clutch accumulator and slave replaced, because the clutch pedal was very difficult to press in. that solved the problem.
the last few days on cold start up the clutch feels strange. It engages at different points. The car doesn't move (in 1st or reverse) until the clutch has been let almost completely out (normally it's about the mid point). This goes away after i drive it for a few minutes. the clutch otherwise seems fine- no slipping. It seems to be worse with colder weather-it's been a lot colder than normal in SoCal lately
any thoughts on this problem
thanks

I had (2) experiences with the dealer replacing the accumulator.
On the third visit, they replaced the accumulator with one from a 997 Turbo.
That was months agao and the car and clutch feelmore perfect than when i bought the car.
My guess is that there is a problem with the 996 Turbo accumulator.

update on problem- now there is leakage from the left resevoir under the hood. Is that more evidence in favor of a faulty accumulator?
could this be from a faulty master cylinder?
i'm taking the car in tomorrow to get this checked out.

When your clutch reservoir is overfilling it is because of fluid migration from steering reservoir to the clutch reservoir. It is due to a faulty slave actuator. it is the only place in the system where the migration can occur....
Given there is leakage from the front left resevoir, does that mean the problem is definately something other than the system not being bled correctly?
Slave function....
I had problem with my slave last summer and decided to replace it. But I like to understand how stuff works and decided to dismantle the old one completely....My understanding of the system is: the assy consist of one piston with double heads(with diff size) to drive the clutch with 2 pressure ports. One coming from the clutch pedal hydraulic pressure that one act on the larger piston and the second port the pressure is coming from the steering pump to assist the clutch pedal movement. That one push the smaller portion of the piston. This double piston action being done by two different hydraulic pressure is isolated by rubber seals or o-rings. This is exactly where I think there is a possibility or fluid migration. My understanding of the accumulator is simply assisting the clutch pedal function and to IMHO does not have anything to do with migration.... I will be back from a trip to NYC tomorrow and if you want I can post picture of the slave completely dismantle on my work bench....Hope this help....J.P.
