996 GT3 RS vs 997 GT3 CUP Uprights!

Hello.

I wounder if some one could help me out with some questions i have.
# Is there any diffrence betwene the 996 GT3 RS -04 uprights and the 997 GT3 CUP -08?

# Will the 997 GT3 CUP uprights fit on an 996 GT2?

# Does the CUP cars have handbrake? or are the rear 997 GT3 CUP uprights already prepared for handbrake pads?

# I have heard that the 996 suspension will not fit in an 997 GT3 CUP upright? is this true?

# Will the prakes from an 996 GT2 fit on the 997 GT3 CUP uprights?

Because if im going to change my uprights i have today to get better handling on the car, is it not true that the 997 GT3 CUP uprights are the best for the moment then?

Greatful for answers.

Best Regards
Oscar Larsson

Oscar,

The basic casting of the 996-RS upright and the 997 CUP upright should be very similar, if not identical. The RS street upright was created as a homologation piece for the 996 RSR, and the big change for the 997 CUP cars was the adoption of these pieces as well. These pieces have been machined further in later iterations, such as the 997 GT2 or RSR, but the basic castings are the same.

One thing you should consider is that the 996 RS or 997 GT2 uprights may be superior for street use. The purpose for changing uprights is to optimize geometry for lowered ride heights. I suspect that the machining on the newer pieces were designed to optimize for even lower ride heights or race ride heights. Unless you are talking about a pure track/race application, the 996 RS uprights should be a perfect fit for your application. The 997 pieces should also fit just fine as well. 1BADGT2 apparently uses 997 RSR uprights for his suspension.

One of the best resources for topics like this is Cary Eisenlohr of ERP, who is on this board. Also, I have a brand new, complete front 996 GT3-RS upright set that I'm willing to sell with hubs and brake ducts if you are interested in buying a set. I was going to install these on a 996 GT2 as well.

Hope this helps.

Hello.

Thanks for the replay.
But arent the 997 CUP Uprights build for low ride hights?
The thing were that the 997 Cup uprights for the 2008 year model were a 3third of the price compared to the 996 GT3 RS street car.
Will i need to change all things like the lower control arms also or i can i use 996 GT3 RS adjustable control arms in these uprights f
rom the 997 CUP?

# Are the rear 997 CUP uprights ready for handbrake or do i need to machine these?

# So the new GT2 has also this new uprights.

# But on all these 997 uprights are the bolt holes for the brake calipers diffrent? Because on all pictures i have seen it looks like the holes are on diffrent place's so that my 996 CUP calipers will not fit. Do you know anything about this?

Best Regards
Oscar
