Differences between 996 ABS units GT3, Turbo, GT2, Carrera etc...???

Hi

Does anyone know the differences between the ABS units in the 996?

The GT2 has a totally unic partnumber 996.355.955.30 and the GT3 beetween 2001 and 2005 has the number 996.355.955.04 and its shared with the standard Carrera 2 only in 2001 after this the standard Carrera changes the part number in 2002 to 996.355.955.05, 2003 to 996.355.955.06?? After this the Carrera gets very different part numbers and PSM etc wich is of no interest to me!

Why have the GT2 a different ABS than the GT3?

Does the Carrera after 2001 have a better ABS then the GT3(same years)concidering they changed the abs in the Carrera to a different and higher number?? Whats is the differences?

Whats the difference between the GT3 and the GT2 abs?

Wich is the best one and why??

The person that have answers to all my questions is officially named "Porsche GURU" in my opinion!!

Thankful for any answers regarding this!!

Regards
Peter

Not going to answer the specific questions and no question I am a long, long way from any type of Guru!
The earlier GT3 system is 3 channell ABS. The later GT3 Fly By wire GT3 shares the same part number with GT2 ( I think-I need to check!)
The CupCars have 4 channell system- different plug system I think.
I also think the Turbo and GT2 units are the same?? That is a question.

I bought a ABS unit supposedly for GT2 that was different again to any of the other models I have looked at.(different plug layout)
On the other models--history shows Porsche will use existing product in initial production and then move to a just do what is needed model as they go along.
Anyone welcome to correct anything I say--I also have more questions unanswered than answered!

Back from the dead!!!

Could someone tell me what the best ABS module to use on a 1999 C2 with GT3 brakes?

Will the 996 GT3 cup car ABS module work, part number 996.355.049.92

Thanks!

I dont have PET catalog for the moment but if the ABS unit is from let say a 2004 Cup car then you will have a problem because newer versions have a canbus system wich the 1999 c2 dosent have, this meens different "pins! in the connector on the ABS unit.

Why do you want to change the OEM mounted in the car it should work fine with GT3 brake calipers!?

/Pete

Ah I see.

Yeah I will probably be fine with the stock C2 abs module, I just read people having the ice mode problems and a lot of people recommended the cup car module.

you could always look up the 2000-2002 abs system programs for cup cars...that said, the only issues I ever had w abs was when I was running an 01 turbo setup in the pca clubrace series...the car I drove in Grand-Am already had a complete bosch system (similar to what my 996 cup runs)
