Stop Chris Bangle
I love my 740i Sport Package; it was the last E38 (model year 2001) before Bangle destroyed the 7 (and the rest of the models). I think the E38 Sport is the most elegant BMW, although obviously not a rocket like an M5. The only car I would choose over my 7 is the one I have on order for January build. Can't see myself in a BMW again (despite the fact that the cars continue to drive like BMWs) because they are so lame in appearance. It is truly sad, what has happened to this company, even though what we are talking about has only to do with looks and not necessarily performance. Why can't BMW just admit they messed up with Bangle? And I agree with a previous post concerning Bangle's bad taste in dress.
The Bangling up of the new 5s is making me crazy!
I love my E39 M5 and was looking forward to many years of loyalty....and new ones!
But now, I am thinking of extending the warentee and keeping this beast for a long time........
Unless something changes radically

Also, many people speak of the new styling as "growing on" them, as in a positive direction. The styling is indeed growing on me: the more I think about and actually see the new 7, Z4, and now the 5, the more I dislike the visual cues built into these automobiles.
jim,
I agree the 740i Sport is one of the most beautiful and elegant BMWs ever made. I had one just prior to the M5.
I became notorious with some members of this board, because I used to drift my 740 around corners and go canyon slamming with the 996TT guys out here. I'm not kidding either...
A very nice car and traded in after recording over 100,000 miles on the clock.
If it had my M5 engine and tranny it would have been THE perfect 4-door sedan.

I had the 7 sport also just prior to my M5! BTW, when you coming to Chicago? Still want to get together? PM me if you do.
