most vehicles have additional smog equipment and such for vehicles sold in california, are these vehicles any different? anything to look out for when purchasing a ca car vs any other state?

Most cars are "50 state legal" meaning they will be CA compliant even if originally sold elsewhere. Years ago (and even more recently with some of the newer blue diesels) you could buy a car in the other 49 and it was not yet CA legal.

So for 996TTs all you need is a US model and it will be OK in any state
