In 2000, Porsche launched the Turbo version of the Type 996. Like the GT3, the new Turbo engine derived from the 911 GT1 engine and, like its predecessor, featured twin-turbos and now developed 415 PS (309 kW). Also like its predecessor the new Turbo was only available with all wheel drive. A US$17,000 factory option, the X50 package, was available that boosted the engine output to a tidy 450 PS (331 kW) with 620 N·m (457 ft·lbff) of torque across a wide section of the power band. With the X50 package in place the car could make 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 3.8 seconds. This package is named as Turbo S in Europe. Later on toward the end of the 996 life cycle, a 996 Turbo S coupe also returned to the US along with a new debut of the Turbo S Cabriolet boosting even more power— 450 PS (331 kW) and 620 N·m (457 ft·lbff)— than the regular Turbo.
Apparently, the guy i bought the car from got European delivery. A 2002 X50 was called a Turbo S.

Interestingly, the US "turbo S" includes the X50 plus the PCCBs. Does yours have PCCBs or just the X50?
A
If you are a Chic Region member, common places are Eurosport, NorthStar, Fisher, others that advertise are Kurts & Scotts. I don't get down that way anymore so someone else can recomend.
Just to clarify thinks a Turbo S is a special edition that started production at 2004...So every turbo that is produced before that simply is not an S...
differences between turbo and turbo S are X50 power package,PCCB,and many other (mostly cosmetic)details...a and also a reinforced tranny and different(more strong) clutch disk...not pressure plate, just disk...
so if someone bought a turbo 2002 model with the optional X50 power package it has k24 turbos +intercoolers+flash to 450hp so it performed like a turbo S...but it is not a turbo s...
P.S. I think turbo S has a X73 sport suspension as standard,as well...

In your case it might be interesting to hear if it was a European model that was imported... on the other hand, if the prior owner just "S badged' it, no biggie
Nah- we just get excited when there is a car that seems to 'break the rules' on what we thought applied ... like there was a 2005 US car that was a "non-S", but we thought the rule was 'all US 2005s were TurboS'. Seemed to be authentic. Not sure if it added any value!
