Blew my Power Steering Pump...Bummer

Holy crap...does it cause problems...car wont shift...I didn't understand that such a small pump could cause such a big problem. Has anyone had the same issue??? I'm told its fairly common.

I've heard of several people having this problem on the board.

How do you know its the power steering pump?

What symptoms were you getting before it failed?

The power steering and clutch share the same fluid system. If you lose one, you lose the other. Most of the people who have had problems had trouble with the cluctch pressure accumulator, AFAIK.

Its funny the steering was fine...its was the shifting that got more difficult over time. Finally it wouldnt shift at all...I thought it was the accumulator at first...and it still may be a issue but I need to get the pump working to see if the accumulator is working or not

Yeap had both steering pump replaced and before that the resavoir replaced. Stuff was leaking from bottom of car for awhile. Expensive repairs replace with 997 parts. Yes my steering too was fine.

Must happen more fequently with red cars Look on bright side it will be that much longer until it breaks again

997 pump will work in 996? any difference on how they work? I know that the 997 uses a different clutch setup.
