Brake help

I did a wheel swap and replaced the aftermarket 19s with the oem turbo twist; the car had developed a front end shimy and none of the shops wanted to examine the wheels due to it having spacers. Anyway I decided to temporarily replace the wheels and all was well until I replaced the rears..I didn't know the wheel bolts were longer than oem. To make a long story short I used an electric torque wrench and hear something go crack and now the parking brake feels weak and just lettinh it roll down the drive causined binding and cracking...What a noob/ boob. Can't tell you how pissed I am. I went and bought the shorter bolts but now I have to fix what I broke.. Anybody have any suggestions or helpful advise?

Can you change your own pads? If you are comfortable with that take off the wheel and see if you can get the pads off? Inspect the pads and brake rotor. If not I'd tow it to your shop and let them sort it out.

I would pull a wheel and have a look behind it. There is a dust shield behind the rotor that might have gotten bent and engaging the rotor. You can bend it with your hands or a screwdriver away from the rotor. Hope that is helpful.

I thought about this some more, and I realize my previous post was probably wrong. There is a drum-type brake inside the rear rotors for the emergency brake. Probably you bent something in there when you drove the bolts in.

If you're at all mechanically inclined, it shouldn't be too hard to get in and take a look:
1. Jack car and remove wheel
2. Remove brake pads
3. Undo two allen head bolts and remove caliper. Hang from spring with a bungee cord or string.
4. Remove two phillips head screws in rotor and remove
5. Look and see what's bent inside, and straighten with pliers if possible.
6. Reverse procedure to reassemble. Careful not to overtorque caliper bolts: 63 ft-lbs.

Good luck,

Jon

One thing to add to Jon's list which is a good one: First be sure the e-brake is disengaged.
