Cobalt + Tint? Single DIN GPS/stereo?
Cobalt + Tint? Single DIN GPS/stereo?
Hey guys, did a search but didn't find much. Does anyone have pictures of a Cobalt Blue 996TT with tinted windows? I've never done tint before, is it around $200-300?
Additionally, I have PCM1, and I'm tired of it getting me lost with ancient discs and insanely long mapping times, so I think it needs to go. But I also really want to do a GT3 console delete. So I was thinking I should get rid of PCM in the upper dash, move the climate controls up to the upper dash, and then use the remaining space to put in a single DIN fold-out GPS/stereo receiver. Is that possible? Does PCM1 take up exactly two single DIN slots? Are there any good receivers that don't cost an arm and a leg? I assume it will need to be a fold out unit, of course.. I've searched Crutchfield and some other sites, and everyone is pushing double DIN. But that GT3 console delete looks so good...

My rears are at 20% (I think) and there is no tint on the two side windows (all done by the previous owner). It is challenging to see out the back when backing up at night.
I was quoted $500 to tint all the windows with Huper Optik nano-ceramic film. Other films were less.

Thanks Ed!
A little detective work was all I needed to get to the album on Picasa. BTW, when I post Picasa images, I find a good strategy is to wait until it finishes loading, and then simply right-click "Copy Image URL". Google does weird web tricks with it, sometimes. The "Link to this photo" thing I find doesn't always work on forums..
$500? Yow. I'm going to assume that's super fancy and at the upper end of the spectrum.
Glad your kids are enjoying the car!
Always great to see another Cobalt owner.

Yeah - the link to this image URL links not to the image itself but to the webpage that has the image. Took me a minute to figure out why the image wasn't linking at first.
The Huper Optik stuff is supposed to be top-of-the-line and was more than double the price of the 3M film. The installer told me that it doesn't use metallic particles that may interfere with cellphones and the ceramic particles keeps the car cooler (important in Phoenix). The drawback for me was that the film has a green tint to it - I can't imagine that would look good on our blue cars.
The kids still love the car. They both ride it to school in the morning and home from the afterschool program in the afternoon. (Lets see a Corvette or Ferrari do that.) About the only thing that I won't use the car for is swim practice - too much wet gear and chlorine.
