why do turbos use oil?

Most turbos use about a quart in 1-1.5k mi.. Is it being burned in the cylinders or is it lost in the turbo seals? thanks carl

i believe it is being used by the ball bearings and other areas inside the turbo that require lubrication.

The standard turbos do not have ball bearings.

My GT3 does not use any oil and the GT2 uses about a qt in 1200 mi. The 2 is lower reving and the same basic engine. If it is the turbos where is it being burned?
