In the market for a GT2; wrong move rookie?!
XPGT2....as a new guy w/ some impressive looking cars and racing experience, tell us about yourself and more importantly your cars (which look very nice, btw).
Start another thread, if you wish.
To the OP, keeping a GT2 fairly stock and working on your driving skills at the track is not a bad game plan.

As for LSD the one in my 996GT3 didn't last 3000 miles and the rebuild didn't last much longer. I will admit that a good portion of the 25,000 miles I put on the GT3 were on an AutoX course.
As a driver I consider myself average but I have a kid, Ian Stewart, who knows how to wheel a Porsche.
I am owner, crew chief, small$$ pocketbook, and setup guy for the GT2. Peter

The GT2 is singular in the car world. As a recent "rookie" owner myself, I'll state there's nothing else like it. It's light, Spartan, loud, and very, very exclusive. IMO, the 996 GT2 is the one true "man's car" built by Porsche in the water cooled era.
Buy it, drive carefully, use common sense, take it step by step. After 5 months of ownership and 3000 miles, I'm just now beginning to feel comfortable thrashing it around. And man, it sure feels great!
Thanks to everyone for their input, much appreciated. I'm going to take my time with this purchase, one of the GT2s I was excited about prospect wise has turned into a bit of a dud so its out of contention. We'll see what shows up for sale in the next few weeks. One positive note is there's not a line of gang busters out there looking for exactly the same thing I am; on ebay using advanced search every 996 TT listed (and GT2s as well) had went unsold, not that that tells the full story but it makes it look more promising that I can sit on some of my prospects while waiting for a better option to reveal itself.
I'll probably grab my pit crew and try and get a test drive locally in a 996TT to test out the real world'ness of the rear seats for short trips.
Thanks again guys, much appreciated.

I think my car's a little puppy dog, but we drive the hell out of them
To the OP.. Most people will shun your decision, and well, when I was young I started out with the faster car's for the inexperience and did just fine, but seriously a GT2 is in another realm..
Really depends what you will be doing with it, if on the track learning it's limits and character that will be much better then on the street tooling around, as it will get you into trouble fast, not even being cliche saying that, it's true!
To clear up 1 myth about the LSD if your GT2 has more than 3,000 miles the OEM LSD is probably not working.
However the options of rebuilding the stock LSD to Cup Car specs, get a Guards LSD or my preference an OSgiken is not all that expensive in the scheme of things. A bad LSD is most noticeable under hard braking from high speed when the back end starts to wiggle back and forth
Park the PCCBs if you track and go to steel rotors.

Peter.. My car does that but only very few times on the track, and usually it's late in the session when i'm doing hard hot laps when those tires start cooking.. How can I accurately know? My car has 33k miles on it, it may have been replaced/rebuilt 15k ago when I got it from RUF or even before but I don't know?? How can I go about rebuilding it to the cup specs?

Quick and dirty LSD check. Both rear tires off the ground, car in neutral turn 1 wheel and see if the other wheel turns the same direction = good. If it doesn't turn then bad. I wouldn't be surprised if RUF installed an upgraded LSD. When I got mine from Matt @ 7000+ miles it was shot.
