PPI results from Barrier...

Hi,

just got some results back from Gary at Barrier.

The car is an 03 996tt X50. Everything has checked out but there is very slight leak at the front of the engine (not a running leak). Gary says it could be from oil spilled onto the engine when topping, and if not, it would probably be the front crank seal.

Besides that, alernator probably needs to be change (or at least the voltage regulator).

Any concerns or tips on this leak. Is this seal notorious for leaking? Also, he says the replacement of the seal is an engine out service...

Thanks!!

Not sure about your car, but recently purchased from barrier and they seem to have there stuff together and were a class act when I purchased and even put my car up on the lift and sent a tech over to answer all of my questions about the car and they told me the good with the bad. So I would say they are at least ethical and would not purpously go out of their way to lie or deceive you. Good luck if you purchase and let us know how it works out. By the way what are you lookng at?

Did the PPI include dumping the DME for any over-rev data? Compression/leakdown test? Paint thicknesses?

If they are selling it, they should fix the leak and alternator. If it is private party, they should adjust the price to allow you to fix it. Did you ask barrier what an "engine out service" might cost? Make sure you are sitting down when you ask.

Alright guys. It is a 2003 996 tt with x50... with under 10k miles.

DME:

Stage 1 were at about 5000 (Gary says that should be fine although somewhat high)
Stage 2 were at 11 (Gary says that is as low as you can get to 0, fine also, now worries whatsover).

He says no particular need for a compression or leakdown as there were no codes thrown or no misfires...

Gary had the car checked visually, no evidence of re-paints. I also asked him to take a paint-meter to the car and after that was done, all panels are indeed original paint.

About the seal replacement, it will be over $2k...11 hrs of labor. IF it is necessary. He is very clear with me that it is VERY possible that it is JUST spilled oil. But im bracing for the worst

It sounds like I also looked at the same car. Is it the one in Parkplace? They were looking for quite a premium on it at $69K.
It is a great looking car, good luck with the purchase.
