I don't think the Turbo will cost you more money over the long run.

Have you driven the base (or S) 911 and the Turbo? Doing so will go a long way in answering your question.

I started out in the Carrera, and spent all sorts of money trying to make it into something it wasn't....a TT. Alex at Sharkwerks gave me a good bit of advice...instead of chasing the mods, spending the money.... and trying to make it into a turbo....why don't you just go for the turbo?? When my Carrera was totalled as the result of a dash fire, I used the opportunity (AKA insurance pay-off) to jump into the TT....best move I ever made. Contrary to what some will say, the TT is not particularly expensive to maintain....UNLESS you blow a motor....but you'll hear time and again that the TT's are pretty much bulletproof. After you've had the chance to drive both of them, your dilemna over which one to buy will be over.

True, but from everything I've read, stock for stock you are much more likely to blow out the engine on the Carrera by way of the RMS than grenade a TT engine.

Surely the big gotcha on our car is there is always the chance (which I still think is pretty small overall) of the dreaded 2nd gear pop-out appearing and of course that is not a cheap fix...
