GT28 vs K24 pros and cons
#61
The Valley does pretty good prep on a rental though...
#62
Since they re-did the track, it's been pretty sticky even on Wednesday's.

The last rental I went to there (you were there too) I couldn't get Dave's car to hook in 2nd, yet it was holding on the street just fine .
BTW - I just called Mike around the 10th. We'll be there with a car or two!

One of you might need to drive my car then haha.

Just to throw it out there, my non ball bearing GT28's made a lot more HP than the new series at 1.4bar and C16. I don't think K24/18 and K24/20 was a match yet since I ran both set ups at same boost and octane. I have videos to prove which I'm sure I will be asked soon.

YUP. Due to not having internals I was only recommended to max boost at 1.4bar with C16, aggressive tune, AFR 10.8. I will wait to see what anyone else would do with those, it would be interesting. You guys should watch the new thread I posted. GT28 vs. different set ups. Yep, video, here starts all the dilemma but I am not scared b/c I have proof.
Art, Have you compared your car with a car with the new "alpha" gt28's? I would love to see the difference between the old and new 28's too. While I agree that all turbos will make more power on good fuel, I also think it's a more fair comparison on pump gas as MOST people are street driving on pump. Your 6.14 was 1.4bar on C16 with your "old" gt28's?

Sorry, just posted this to show the difference b/c different set ups if anyone likes videos

Art's car also has a lot of weight reduction, catless, C16, aggressive tune, high boost, etc. My 11.01 @ 131.75 1/4 mile time was AWD, cats, exhaust and 1.24 bar of boost on K24/18G's. What would my time have been with a major weight reduction (lighter than a GT2), no cats, straight pipes and 1.4 bar of boost? My guess is that it would be in the 10's for sure (it only needed 2/100's for a 10.9) with a higher trap...so, these two turbos are very close to each other - I think the K24/18's might even be faster in the 1/4 mile, all things being equal.
Art, were you AWD or RWD at the time of these runs?

OK, I just thought of something....there was a guy named DMaffo who did the same thing as Art, except with K24/18G's. This is an apples to apples comparison, if there is one. He stripped the cars weight down, ran high boost on C16 with straight pipes and asked Todd for an aggressive tune.
DMaffo's time: 10.84 @ 133.4 - DMaffo / AWD
Art's time: 10.89 @ 133.2 - Art4iza / RWD
Also of note is the fact that Dmaffo acomplished this with AWD vs. Art's RWD...
I think this demonstrates you can not count the K24/18G out.
And Art, please do not take this the wrong way - I am not trying to discredit your times or claims, I am just exchanging information, as I understand it.

Great post John, truth is the truth buddy. I am more after trap than e.t. though, did not launch the car hard at all. As you can see the slip was 1.8 60 foot with no changes in tire pressure. Smoking first gear and part of second. If I did a 5K launch with good tires it would be low 10's for sure. Not to mention DA was 1600. I had one more run of 11.1 @136mph with a much worse 60 foot. All times in RWD mode, my car has been converted, weight reduced....YES
