Should it have been repainted?
Should it have been repainted?
Here is a question that I have wrestled with since I bought my 2002 TT/X50 Seal Gray a year and a havlf ago. I bought it from the Porsche Dealer in Camp Hill, PA. Used w/ 5k miles.
One of the issues was that the inner lip of the engine cover rubbed the paint to, almost to the primer, at the lower left and right sill before it becomes the bumper. Hope all of that makes sense.
I wanted them to re-align the lid correctly and fix (repaint it) Instead, they "buffed it" and put some felt at the corners to prevent it from rubbing again. When I saw the work, I insisted that they take off the felt as it is not factory. They convinced me at the time that re-painting was a bad idea, because the entire bumper would need to be painted and seal gray is too tuff to match and it would decrease the car's value as it was not factory paint. I bought the explanation at the time.
However, they repainted my aero chin spoiler twice and it matches fine. I paid mucho $ once and once was under warranty when I bought it. I got to thinking, because of another thing or two that they did with my 84 Carrera that, perhaps they didn't want to repaint the bumper solely to save them time and money.. What would you all do?
regards,
Steve
