How can you tell if the front diff is fried?

I'm getting a weird ticking feeling from the steering wheel.
Is that my suspension doing that or is my front diff fried?
How do I check this??
Thanks.

ticking? When you're just driving along? Is it in a perfect rhythm, or random? And it stops
when you stop, right? I never felt anything at all in the wheel, but I eventually got a random
rattling noise from the front...

If it's perfect rhythm, then it's nearer the wheels and brakes, especially
if you feel something in the wheels.
