Oil Pressure Problems

Has anyone else had problems with the oil pressure suddenly failing, and a shift up or down correcting the problem? This occurs infrequently. Is it just a gremlin?

Sounds like you may have a loose ground wire somewhere. The jerk of the engine/transmission causes the contact to be made again and the guage goes back to normal. Did you have any work performed on the car recently? I am assuming the car is running fine with no noise or vibration when this occurs. If there is a noise or vibration when the low oil pressure light comes on, get the car to service quickly before your engine goes to shreds.

No noise or vibration. I guess I'll take it in and have the wire checked. Thanks.

I've been having the oil light come on. The dealership said it was the oil temp sensor. They replaced it, but the light recently came back on. I have noticed the oil pressure gauge getting very erratic at times. None of these things have affected the running of the car. It runs great.

I had a similar problem 6 months ago. Oil pressure would drop to '0' and the Low Oil Pressure warning came on. It was very sporatic and usually when I was driving at no boost, 2500 - 3000 steady rpm. There was no noise or studdering. A blip of the throttle cleared the warning.
My dealer replaced the MAF suggesting that it's failure often caused very irratic and unusual faults. He was right. The problem went away.

There is also a set of wires behind the oil filter housing. The top spade gets knocked off. I would check that.
