Talking Track Wrap got me pulled over.

I think it did anyway...

Track wrap is the plastic seen here (not my car... think it's Porsche Babe's)

Anyway, on my way to the track on Thursday, I had this on my car and since it was my first time putting it on, well, it didn't look that great and was kinda flapping in the wind on some places. (I since learned how to apply it where it doesn't do that.)
I was following a friend in a 993 C2S (beautiful car) and we weren't even really speeding. 70 in a 65.

Well, all of the sudden, red and blue lights in my mirror! I couldn't figure out why. I pulled over, and turned on the interior light because it was still dark outside... then did the usual hands on the wheel until he came to the window.

He asked me, "Know why I pulled you over?"
"No sir. I wasn't speeding."
He said, "No, but you didn't signal on a lane change back there." WTF!?!?

He then began inspecting the front of the car. I told him it was for the track to protect it, etc. And he started smiling and asking about the car. Including, "How fast does this thing go?"
I said, "Well, on the track I hit about 140 - 145 max, but it really can't go any faster than 70 on the freeway."
He laughed and asked about the front plate, where I immediately thought of a response I had never considered, "Well, on the track they recommend taking it off because it can fly off at high speeds." <--- I was kind of impressed for coming up with that on the spot... I figured it was better than, "the bracket broke... blah blah blah" they've heard a million times.
He laughed and said, "Well, you're getting 2 warnings... One for the signal and the other for the lack of a front plate."

Whew...

The next day, a cop friend of mine said that he figured he was using the signal as an excuse to check out the car. With me in a baseball hat....I look pretty young, and the track wrap, he figured, looked a lot like the stuff on the car when it's shipped new and fresh off the truck. Putting those together was odd, so he checked it out. That was my friend's guess anyway.

Just thought I'd share.

It is a benign, lightly tacky semi stretchy plastic that comes in 24" x 50' rools for $25.00/roll

Get it from:

Good one Scott! I'm sure the cop was smiling too. Like your "how fast does it go" answer too.
