Noob Qs...

Greetings All,

I've been searching for my TT for a while now and have a few questions.

1) A few cars I've looked at have the carbon steering wheel. I prefer leather, how hard is the swap? What do you think the carbon wheel is worth?

2) I test drove an '06 997S and really liked the exhaust note. Are their any reasonably quiet exhausts out there that can deliver the same sound?

3) The 997S also had a great free revving engine feel, and sharp throttle response. When I asked the sales guy how that compared to the 996 Turbo he said the 996 was the same way, but with wallop of torque after 3000. Is that an accurate description?

It's really easy. Just remove the airbag and the wheel and swap it in. No more than an hour's work..... A Carbon 996 wheel? Would depend on if it was black etc....?

The sound will never be the same as a 997S NA based M97 motor due to the turbos muffling the sound and the engine being so different... However you can still get a sweet sounding 996TT, TechArt, Cargraphic, Europipe and Tubi... any of those will do it justice.

3) I'd say it has gobs more torque and a similar weight flywheel so it revs about the same.

Removing an airbag is not for an ammeter....especially if you've never done one before. They will blow up and hurt you if u do it wrong. If you're careful and somewhat handy and have a workshop manual---its a 1 hour job....probably 2/10 in difficulty.

I was able to do it myself and I have basically zero DIY skills. PM me for DIY instructions that has many pictures. I recommend you take off the carbon fiber wheel and send it to www.dallassteeringwheel.com and have it recover for about $400. First class workmanship and customer service, your choice of materials, and a 5 day turn around. Many on this board have done the same. Check out the website for many examples of their work.

Once you feel the boost, a 997S will never do. But a Sharky GT3RS might do.
