My recent EPL Tune
Thanks, Kevin. Yes, I am very pleased with the current mix of performance, drivability and sound. This is the best it's been. As you know, I had idle issues for a while that were driving me crazy, so it is a real joy to finally have the car 100% again and not tying to diagnose idle issues during every drive. I would like to get over to Epping soon, but I am enjoying the car and don't want to break anything right now, so I'm not rushing...
Enjoy the drive, hopefully you will have some nice weather. We have had so much rain this year!

John, I'm glad to hear you're happy with your car. When are you going to let Tony put a H2O/meth injection kit on your car? I would be exploring that in a flash if I was dealing with EPL.

Mike,
I have been on the verge since last winter. After experiencing downtime the past two years due to mods and associated tweaking, I have decided to leave it alone for now and just enjoy the car for a while. Come winter, I'll probably be looking for something to do

I believe it is just a file update. A year ago, Tony was only tuning at about 1.2 bar, but over time he has become comfortable with introducing a little more boost, as several cars have been running 1.3 bar or more (by request) for a year now with no problems and good datalog readings. 1.3 bar seems to be a good pump gas, street tune. If you are looking for all out performance, you can do a little better running race gas and slightly higher boost. For my typical use, this flash suits me very well and I like it a lot.
The 1.3 bar tune really benefits only on high octane gas, the car retards timing as it senses knock at 93 octane.
Do you have dyno that show a power increment with 1.3 bar on pump gas over 1.0 or 1,2 bar? I am curious to know.
vb, When I dynoed on pump gas at 1.18 bar last year, we were 490ish AWHP on a warm day. The increased boost seems to be having a positive effect - the dyno is higher than at 1.18 and the car feels faster. I'm not sure what to make of your observation, but I can tell you that my car feels substantially faster at 1.3 bar, than it does at 1.1 bar on 93 octane gas. The bottom line is that this is not about chasing a dyno number for me and you have to be careful when comparing dynos from different days. I could go back on a cooler day and get even better numbers with the same tune, but that doesn't make the car any faster or more powerful, so the dyno examples I state are not absolute. However, the 1.18 bar vs. the 1.3 bar dynos I mention were both on warmer days and niether was a "ringer". In fact, they were both done on a low reading, warmer type of day, so they are "probably" a somewhat good comparison.

Thanks. That's in fact good to hear. My friends 1.3bar car might have something else going on if he is dead even with my car and our setup's are similar.
I agree dyno # have too many variables for comparative purposes. But you answered my question.

While our cars performed the same, I'm not sure you can say that a 1.2 - 1.3 bar tune needs race gas.
Without logs of timing, timing correction and knock sensor voltages, it is impossible to know if a car is pulling timing or not.
I will say, my car "felt" the same to me from 1.0 bar (a track file) to my 1.2 bar street tune.
Either way, I'd like to know the answer.
I'd say your car is faster than the average 1.0 bar car

Congrats John, glad the car is up to your liking
. Hopefully there will be some cool Fall days at Epping to run her thru her paces. I am actually taking a car up to the Winnepesaukee region this week and I am looking forward to the drive. Been a long time since I have been thru the sticks of NH....

Been a long time since I have been thru the sticks of NH....If you're hanging around long enough, there is a land speed venue up at Loring AFB in Maine at the end of the month (7/31-8/2).
john...how many miles on your car and have you had and internal engine mods done?

I think you need to datalog your car and let Tony look at the logs, Seems like you have some more power left on the table. But it doesnt make sense, Even when i raced Vince at 1.4 bar i was dead even, now with his 1.2 bar i am dead even. To make things more complex he has higher octane.I am curious to understand how this works.
I've seen logs of Jason's car and its running great! as is your car!
You can bench race all day, but trying to compare different cars on different days on different dyno's can be tough.
Johns car has already trapped 130+ on his old tune, Vinces 128+ on a low bosot... If you want to compare, I would suggest getting to the track and seeing what your car does as is!
