to start with, i like the G55, for the purpose it was built. then, for the purpose it was built what's the point of going into the whole HP war which the car is gonna drive like a brick anyway?

I've driven a G500, and while I LOVE the way it looks for the same reasons as listed by 'WHAT', it performs like molasses going uphill.
The blown AMG engine will definitely wake it up in a straight line, but unless they totally revamp the handling & weight distribution, this thing will just be DANGEROUS with so much power.
I can definitely see people flipping going too fast into a curve.

The G is awesome... and has a lot of history to it. The G wagon was commisioned by the Shah of Iran for a lot of money, but when the G wagons where ready for dellivery, the Shah had been given the good 'ol boot. So Mercedes decided to sell it as a civilian car.
I testdrove the old G55 AMG... it was an awesome car, but did not have that much of an umph. This should be much better, and with some minor mods (not even chiped) you should be able to get this puppy to almost 500 HP

Given the Cayenne reliability and bugs, we have been considering the G55 after just 5 months of C TT ownership. First though, we'll give Porsche a little while longer to get things figured out and take it in to see if they can make it decent.

My father just traded his '03 Cayenne Turbo on the new supercharged G55. I've yet to drive it, but as soon as I do, I'll give you a report. BTW, that's what made me switch to a Range Rover which has been absolutely flawless for the first 3,700 miles. Although the RR doesn't have the power of either the G or CT (that's what we have sportscars for), keep in mind that back seat legroom is very tight on G55.

They put the supercharged AMG 55 engine in the G55 for 2005!!!
At 469HP, it now beats the Cayenne TT for the most powerful SUV in production!...

It has to be interesting. When you think about it, the G was built to handle the 70 or so hp of the military diesel engine!!! LMAO!!
With triple lockers, I'd love to see a single halfshaft take the whole torque. "Uh ... I think I heard snap".
BTW, I'd take a G over a Pepper anyday because it's among the last old school off-road SUVs. Solid axles, triple lockers. Nuff said for me. *uck leather and all that crap!
Have to include a couple pics ... just some eye candy!
Gwagen doing what they do best!

And some sacrilege

Greg, the claim I made came straight from the MBUSA website. Obviously the claim is base model to base model. Since the pepper powerkit is an option, I assume MBUSA thinks they don't need to consider it.
The ML is surprisingly capable...
ML rockin!
...but for the cost of the G55 I would put my money it into the hummer H1 and have a real offroad beast. You don't need the luxo G interior if you intend to use its offroad prowess anyways.

less than 5% of all SUV owners go offroad. Rather they are just "cool" station wagons. those who buy performance SUVs are probably much more interested in speed and handling (not to mention luxury).

To the guy who thinks the pepper is Porsche satire, is it also satire that P made a tractor, or that they won Dakar to Paris in a 959, or that they have a design group that creates everything from pens, lighters, computer cases, eye glasses, and clothes?

I hear what you are saying, but I find it hard to believe that I am in a 5% group. But the simple truth is I am on dirt and gravel roads every day I drive my pepper (living in western NC.) I also tow the 996TT to the track on an aluminum trailer with extra tires and appreciate the towing capacity. The fact that this truck is a Porsche and drives like a sports car when I am not towing is such a SUPER bonus.
