I'm am very careful not to over fill, maybe the gauge is broken, because it goes to check oil very quickly, even after adding almost 2 quarts.
Is there a way to check oil with a dip stick?

The 996 TT does not have a dip stick.

Thumbs up

My 01 TT does the same. Both pipes. Gene at Fisher Motors in Barrington (independent Porsche Mech for over 20 years) says it's common in TTs. Also said oil consumption can be up to about 1 quart every 1000 miles using 10W 40 in the summer and 5W 30 in the winter.

This is hard for me to get used to as the Japanese cars I've owned never used or leaked oil.

Reading other posts, apparently since this is an flat 6, oil can seep past the rings when the car is sitting and cause the smoke upon startup then dissipate quickly.

Strange that the Boxter I traded for the TT didn't smoke upon startup after sitting (all winter last year) and/or use any oil.

If anyone knows a way to fix this, please let us know. My warranty expires soon (March 05)

My car smokes from the left tail pipe, and also uses A quart every 200 miles or so. Also there are black marks all over the ground behind my tail pipe, only behind the left one. I am presently documenting it and at sometime in the near future Porsche is going to fix or replace the engine.

My mechanic said my Turbo were gone, if not tended to, I would risk damaging the turbo fan blades and getting metal into the engine.

My 01 TT smokes a ton too. It seems to be very sporadic though. Sometimes there is no smoke at all. Other times there are large billows of white smoke. I think most TT's smoke some when they start up, but mine seems to smoke more than others.

The car has been to the dealer several times and I believe the turbo seals were checked. Any other thoughts???

The last time the car was dropped off at the dealer it didn't smoke once and it was there for a week. Then I pick up the car and just my luck it smokes several times for me. (The service reps think I'm crazy!). After we replaced the seals and did several other checks, porsche wanted me to put 2,000 miles on the car, which I've done and the problem persists.

I'm dropping off the car again this week for another check and hopefully we'll get the problem resolved. I'll keep you posted...

Turbos have been sent back to Imagine auto, I'm waiting to see what they will do. Figures, all this would be happening during the shoot out.

That is an extreme. Make them replace the engine or call it a lemon.
