I suck at DIY and even I managed to pull this off in about 10 minutes. Do it!

I did this a few minutes ago. However, I can't get the key to lock in. It stays, but I can pull it out.

My key wont start the car. It turns and the dash lights up, but does not start.

schwarz is infamous around these parts
There's a little pill looking thing in the key. Did you transfer this over to the new key too? You have to do it otherwise the key won't start the car.

does anyone know if the guts go bad? the redlight flickers when buttons pushed but does not operate at all. suspected the battery was failing but that didn't solve it.

looks like a $300.00 fob/programming pill to swallow but at least i'll have a new 997 ish fob

There are a few things that make the fob go bad... If you sit on it and it tried to contact the car 256 times (Less than one minute of sitting) while out of range, it will disable the remote unlock. More than 1024 times and the key is toast - even the dealer can't re-activate it. You can re-activate the 256 count issue yourself by putting the key in the ignition, turn on, turn off - that's it.

The crest fell off the nice new one I got from SunCoast after a few months and, when I asked about warranty, they told me I could buy a new crest.

my guts have failed so i have no choice but to buy the oem for 190? then program it for another hun. that one is just the housing. plus it lacks the groovy litup 911 logo

ecs has the oem 911/997 looking one without guts for 106.00

add: nothin's ever easy. ugh. turns out i need the newer key housing for $106 from ecs and another OEM 996 remote key w new guts for $160, and then the 1 hr programming fee @ 200 +/- so all in 460 & TAX lol for a %$*&^%* key. maybe i'll just turn the spare key in the door..

rats.

Your prices are spot on. I just had this done, got sick and tired of unlocking the door and trying to get the car started before the alarm went off. I ordered a replacement key and remote head (~$350) then spent another $100+ for the reprogram which takes about 5 minutes but P-stealer charges an hour labor + $20 bucks shop supplies...WTF...what shop supplies!?!? Pisses me off but now I have it done and a spare key.
