coolant leakage-front end-GT 2
coolant leakage-front end-GT 2
A few weeks ago, i suffered what, in NASA-speak, would be a "catastrophic coolant loss"; the green stuff was literally pouring out through the seams of the underpan forward of my left front wheel. Turned out the problem was a radiator hose, which detached itself from its fitting; all was handled by the dealer with a minimum of fuss, and i'm back out on the road a few days later.
Today, while having the car washed, i noticed coolant dripping from the other (right) side under the front end; as soon as the car was dried, i took it back to the dealers for them to inspect. (Service won't be there, of course, until Monday).
So, my question: I guess i could have written off the first leak to some anomaly of hose/clamp. But, for this to happen again, so soon (albeit possibly from on the other side) suggests to me that the wear and tear i suffer with this low rider on curb cuts, in driveways, etc. that eventually trashes the replaceable plastic spoiler trim may be doing more than chewing the spoiler. I'll obviously want to know once the dealer gets the car on a lift whether there is any indication of abrasion on the pans under the nose- but i wonder what other GT-2 owners have experienced. The car otherwise has suffered nary a problem- it runs cool and quiet (except for the fockin' exhaust- a Fabspeed-which makes me sound like a ricer as soon as i "reach" idle). Regards,.,.

Bill,
Having personally done a GT2 nose conversion on my 2002TT, I think it is the main inlet and outlet hose connections to the radiator. The radiator part numbers for the TT and GT2 are the same. The TT radiator, as purchased, tilted into the GT2 slanted configuration will not allow the hoses to connect in their normal fashion. I don't know what Porsche does in the factory to address this, but I would guess they modify the outlets to get the hoses to connect and sweep properly. I, and another person I know with the GT2 nose conversion can smell the sweet smell of AF from time to time. I have removed the nose twice in an effort to check for leaks and nothing could be found. If Porsche connects the hoses to the radiator in the manner I think they do, I think that is the weak link.
