Need help with Battery

I just went to start my car and realized that it was dead. I left the light on in the interior last weekend and since I only drive the car maybe once a week, decided today that I would take her for a nice ride.

The problem is this I jumped the car and it started after the cables sat on the battery between both vehicles for about 15 minutes. I took the car for a nice ride "about 20 mins" when I came back to the house and turned the car off, I tried to restart it and "nothing" the battery is once again dead.

Do I

a. Buy a new battery
b. Charge the current battery with a battery charger? Also any recommendation on a battery charger??

I would buy a new battery and would also look into a battery maintainer if you don't drive the car that much. As for what kind of charger if you go that route, try Sears.

Get a battery tender...

You will need a battery tender in future anyway, so start there.
Porsche sells one that plugs into the wall, and then into your
cigarette lighter to charge and maintain your battery. First, check
the fluid levels in your battery, and add distilled water if the
plates are at all exposed. Then plug in the tender and let the
battery charge. This tender can be left connected indefinitely
because it lowers it's output to a trickle charge once the
battery is at full strength.
If you current battery starts your car and holds a charge after
this, you are in luck. Otherwise you will need a new battery,
which you should then keep charged with the tender. My battery
is original, from August '00. I keep it fully charged as described.
The tender is plugged in 24/7 except for driving and washing the
car.

Charge it on a 10 amp charger. Then take the battery to a parts place so they can put a load on it with the battery tester. If it is bad then time to replace.

The battery is a standard group size 48 battery that is also used on other cars. The replacement battery my dealer uses are made by Douglas.

I replace mine with an Autozone for $60 about 2 years ago. My friend bought one from Sears for $30 dollars more, but it is the same as my battery. Interstate is also another replacement. They all have the vent. Jeff

Sounds like a dead battery. I can't believe it with your car being an '02, but that's what it sounds like. 996s and Boxsters (don't know about previous models) have a feature that if you "forget" a light or accessory, the car shuts it down after a while, ex. lights radio etc. So that itself shouldn't have given you a dead battery. I replaced mine (having it for just over 3 years) last month with an Optima. Don't replace it with a stock battery. The Molls are garbage. I can't believe that I'd need a new battery even though I gave it constant maintenance charges, but i did. A couple of years ago I was at the Porsche dealership and noticed outside that they had a WALL of old Moll batteries....hmm maybe I should check to see if they're publicly traded!

Thanks for the feedback everyone I am in the process of charging the original battery. If that doesn't work then time to buy an Optima
