I got tagged last weekend up on Skyline Blvd and had been in the market for a detector. Picked up a V1 on for a sweet deal and hope it saves my **** going forward.

You guys have good luck with the V1?

In general, I think V1's great. Down sides are when alerted for laser, it's too late (Might as well get a laser shifter along with V1) and instant on radar (I don't think there's much you can do about that).

Sorry to hear about the ticket, that sucks. Often times I am left thinking that the police would be better served capturing criminals vice dorking around handing out tickets... however, tickets pay the bills.

i used to live in san mateo, that's a nice road. have tried the escort and v1. both are similar but...
what i like about the v1 is the directional indications
what i like about the escort is that i can easily see which band reading

detectors are much more effective when the speed devices are aimed at the front of the car. Most where i live now, shoot the car as it passes which depends a lot on the surroundings ie briges/other vehicles which bounce the signal towards you before you get there.

but detectors aren't fool proof. Best is to use them to learn the roads often taken, so it's known how often traps are set up and how often hardwired ones are on/off. Detectors don't help much on their own or on unfamiliar roads, as by the time they shoot your car, it's too late.

Laser is a bit better, they could be shooting at cars ahead of you and give a warning. I asked a police officer (few years ago) how far the range is, he replied quarter of a mile. Technology has probably gotten better by now. Depends on budget of enforcement authorities in the area.

Go pick up the Nolo Press Book "Fight Your Ticket & Win in California"

http://www.nolo.com/products/fight-y...ornia-FYT.html

if nothing else, it teaches you how to deal with the court on this one, how to get school, etc. For the more advernturous you may try and fight just to the point of trying to eascape, but not a trial.

Really good advice.
