Why do German car dealers suck so much!! BMW, Mercedes, Porsche for the most part their customer service is horrible.

fdb996c2 - Wouldn't there be some kind of verbal contract between you and the dealer/sales person when you guys talked about ordering the car?

Maybe one of the other sales person screwed with the order when your guy was out since it is such a cut throat business. I bought a 2002 BMW 330ci two years ago from Stevens Creek BMW. I talked to someone on the phone before I went down there and they had the car I wanted there, I went there and asked for the sales person I talked to on the phone, this other guy tells me he is out and won’t be back that day. So this other guy tries to take over the sale, the sale did not go through because the other guy was an a$$. I went home and called the first guy I talked to and it turned out he was there, the other guy had lied. To make it worst, when I purchased the car, I left the dealership with one key because they couldn’t find the others, turns out the other guy took them, I eventually got them.

There was no legally enforceable contract, I'm afraid.

Your story is amazing. What other business treats customers of high-end, expensive products so poorly? If I treated my clients like that, I wouldn't have any.

By the way, the dealership in question here is Sonnen Porsche in Mill Valley.

Whenever I have ordered a Porsche (twice) they have always asked for a deposit. I think that's where your salesman f'd up. They probably sold your car to somebody else! That really sucks, find a new dealer.
When I put my name on the list for a 997tt, which hasn't even been made yet, I still had to fork up some cash.

Fred, I bought my first 996 from Sonnen. It was the first 996 they delivered back in April '98. I speced it, gave them a deposit and made them put all the details in writing. They still screwed up a bunch of stuff. The whole experience sucked, except that I loved the car. I vowed never to buy another car from them, but still shopped them when I bought my GT3...only to find that absolutley nothing had changed and they were as arrogant as ever. I'd be surprised if they have any repeat customers (I know a number of people with the same experience as mine with them who went elsewhere for their next P car). When dealing with Sonnen, you have to put down some cash and get it in writing. I'm sure your car went to someone else. The service dept, however, is very good and I still take my car there for that.

Arling is right. Get a low mileage GT2 that someone else has already taken the depreciation hit on and really have something special, not a marketing gimmick like the S.

If you're stuck on the S, use Porsche's website to search dealer inventories http://www.porschedealer.com/dealer/...locator_us.cgi or have a dealer do it for you. That's how I found my GT3 and got a great deal to boot!

Good luck. Sorry that you got screwed.

Thanks, Holger . . . glad you're so happy with the GT3. I, too, have used Sonnen's service dept regularly and that has been great. Had not used their sales dept, so was shocked to receive such crappy treatment from them when I had been nothing but straightforward. Live and learn, I guess.

In August I went to my dealer & told him I wanted to order a turbo S. He took all the details & told me they would have no problem getting the car. We'll call you in January for the deposit, he said, and the car will be ready late spring, June at the latest. When I was again there a couple months later, he happily pointed out my name in grease pencil on the salesmens' wall, in line for a turbo S.

Today I noticed the dealer's website stated they had a turbo S in stock, so I called to find out the configuration. My salesman was out "for the rest of the month", so they gave me someone else. That car, he said, had been pre-ordered and delivered. They would only get one more, and it was only available (with options I don't want) because a customer had cancelled. What about my car? Can't get it. See my name up there on the list? Oh, we erased that. WHY THE HELL DIDN'T ANYONE CALL ME?!? No answer. Basically, take it or leave it.

WTF?!? I've always bought off the showroom floor before. Is this SOP for Porsche? Are these just the vagaries of pre-ordering, or am I justified in being this steamed?
I have heard this happening in high volume markets like Fla and Calif...they f*** the customers and sell there carsout from under them. Was @ Champion Saturday and they had a blk/blk S Cab on the floor call them @954-946-4020...

Good Luck...I hear all of a sudden Cabs and C4s cabs are nowhere to be found, all last year they were available...

i've been told the Turbo S will be limited production car in 05 but problem is how limited is limited? hate to see if this is another Porsche marketing thing but it's just sucks. for example there should be no 05 GT3 at least i was told early this year when i ordered mine. so far my dealer is telling me they've only got 5 spots for the S which i think is totally BS & later on more are gonna show up. honestly, the best way to do now is to find a nice used GT2 & call it a day. at the end at least GT2 is a GT2 not just a Turbo with a S.
I agree, just like my thread "The great Porsche Con Job" with Porsche nothing is limited....the only limit is how many people will buy it , thats why the are not worth s** when you sell them. The GT3 is about the only car holding decent value even GT2's that are a year old can be had cheap!

Not being a smart-***, but, with dealers always trying to get more $$$$, you need to get everything in writing. You should have insisted on a vehicle order/contract and that they take your deposit. Again, its in no way your fault, but, its the nature of the beast. BTW, my dealer may have an allocation, they are also a board sponser. They are great to deal with, give him a call Aaron 708-212-5557.

From what I hear, Turbo "S" production will be as follows

Coupe: 150
Cabrio: 400+

the most important thing is to buy a car that u love & fits ur need. try not to think about the value because that's not realistic. if money is really that important then buying a Accord or Camry drive it for 3 years u'll only be losing few thousand bucks!

even GT3 is holding up pretty well but i doubt i can sell mine for close to what i paid for since i have a highly optioned car. but so what at least every time i drive it i enjoy it. to me, that's priceless
