Aftermarket tuning, extended rev limiter, type 2 over-revs
Aftermarket tuning, extended rev limiter, type 2 over-revs
Being a relatively new owner, I was a bit concerned when I hooked up my newly purchased Durametric last night.
I read through the various threads, and finally came upon this one which was the most informing.

My car has GIAC tuning, which appears to extend the rev limit to 7k. I know there are varying opinions on type 1 and type 2 over-revs. One thing I have noticed is that I DEFINITELY can trip a type 2 without a missed shift as noted in the thread above, since I'm absolutely CERTAIN I have not missed a shift but did lose traction on an aggressive take-off and likely came close the to rev limit.
If a car has been chipped, with the extended rev limit, what type of #'s would one expect to see ?
It seems chip tuning with an extended rev limit can really accelerate the type 2 over-revs, just curious what others chipped TT's are seeing for type 2.
Just looking for some peace of mind, I suppose. Hoping not to start a flame war.
Thanks.

Higher rev limit will trip Type 2s. No big.
Note that the engine can out-accelerate the tachometer. In a stock car, the tach will lag the engine by about 500 RPM in first gear when accelerating hard.
Some of the faster spooling aftermarket turbos (2860s) can rev even faster. You will see 6,000 RPM on the tach but the engine will be at 7,000 RPM. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90c-N...layer_embedded
