Looking for custom carbon fiber stuff?
Looking for custom carbon fiber stuff?
In perusing the forums, I have noticed an interest in custom carbon fiber components so I figured I'd post up.
I have recently made contact with an engineer who has endeavored into the carbon fiber/carbon kevlar business. He is putting out some very high quality components for the C5 & C6 Corvettes (Hence my affiliation with him). He also owns a company called Cleartastic (a clear bra product) which some of you may be familiar with.
He has committed to work with me on expanding his market in carbon fiber/carbon kevlar, and I am trying to gauge interest in the various automotive communities in cf/ck parts. He is able to do full replacement pieces as well as overlays if the interest is there. His prices are very competitive and the quality of the components are second to none from my experience.
If you are interested in having custom fabbed pieces for your cars, I will need to see a preliminary commitment of 6-10 units (eg. 6 replacement hoods), and at least one piece to pull a mold from. He is open to doing exterior, interior, and engine compartment components.
This is not a sure thing until I get the required commitments 6-10 buyers, at which time, I will turn the reigns over to him for the construction. I will not be recieving any monetary compensation for this, but rather he has agreed to make components for my car under a sponsorship (just so you understand my interest in the matter). We will also look into becoming forum sponsors should the interest prove prevalent. Moderators, please let me know if there is any problem with this post and I will consequently delete it.
If you are interested, please post up here or email me at dave@efiunlimited.com. Here are some pics of the items he currently markets/produces:

Cool. I was thinking a good hi quality CF hood, and maybe some of the rear cooling ducts in CF/CK would be cool. There were some pics of a Porsche with a tellow CF interior. I mentioned to my guy, that colored CF using a silver/white fiber with a tinted clear coat might be a big deal for some of you guys....he is looking into that as well. He can do dry fiber which is like most of the stuff you guys see, but without the glossy resin. Lighter weight, more race part derived.

I too myself have pondered this venture , We have been involved in professional racing over the last decade. I have worked with a engineer that has done carbon and composite for many F1 teams in europe as well as NASA.. The products he can and has produced are true works of art. However the costs in making a really good part out weigh what you can sell them for.
There are far tooooooo many people selling carbon parts in Excellence and various other publications for far to cheap.
No matter how good your product is you will most likely fall victim to the typical price shopping consumer.
Both you and I know that a properly designed part that is structuraly sound costs $$$$.... How do you justify that to the typical street guy that is looking for the look, when he will be able to go and purchase a similar part for half as much, via mail order from the guy down the street.......Regardless of how much better your product is than the next guy.
Now im not saying that everyone is that way, You will find consumers who want the best parts and are willing to pay for it.
However thats a very small percentage......
Just my 02. cents after a lengthy analysis of that market..
if you need to chat PM ......
Regardless............. Good luck in your venture.
