How much power do you need to make to dip into the 10's

I want to prepare myself for the 10 second mark. What needs to be done? Turbos, intercoolers, exhaust, test pipes, injectors, tune (of course), wieght removal? Will the AMS billet 16G upgrade do the trick or will i need something bigger? I am looking to do the bare bones to get me in the 10'a not wanting super overkill, but just enough kind of upgrade. -Rob

I would say you need excellent driving and at least 550whp to dip into 10s. If you are not such a good driver you will need more power. Generally the 996TT platform will approach high 10s ET if trap speed is better than 130mph. Of course this depends on launch and driving skill.
The AMS setup got a ~133mph trap speed after a bad launch. The ET for this run was 11.39s after a 2.1x 60 ft. I think with a better launch a 10.9x would have been possible.

I believe I could just about put my 16/16G car in the 10s.

Especially with the stock 18s with some DRs and a decent launch.

The performance mods on my car are somewhat minimal compared to most. K16/16G turbos, DVs, 5 bar fuel mod, EPL 1 bar tune.

+1^^^
Weight loss and driver skill helps more than power gain.

everyone is afraid of launching the car har as to break the axles if you put in good axles n some good rubber n a 600whp car you should do it easily

markski@markskituning Dec 16, 2009 11:11 AM

Drivers skills is half the battle.. the other is the set up like tires, track condition, temperature, etc we have guys with 650 rwhp and they could not get into the 10s....
So can the AMS set up do it? probably... a few others a well... but will it happen...
it is up to you,
good luck,
markski

10.9 would need an excelent driver/shifter and a some weight reductions. At a minimum, take everything out of the trunk and extra seats. Run the car at 1/4 tank max.
