Brake Caliper Removal Question
Brake Caliper Removal Question
I am getting ready to remove the brake calipers and after a thorough inspection, it looks like the front calipers have steel tubing connected from a fixed point on the front strut then running directly to the caliper.
All that I have read says that you can remove the caliper and just support it with something.
My concern is that with the steel tubing connected to a fixed point, won't the steel tubing bend (or start to leak at the fittings) if I remove the caliper? I just want to change the rotors but don't want to damage the steel tubing or cause leaks nor do I want to disconnect the tubing and have to deal with bleeding the brakes.
Thanks for your help,
Z4MET.

Sounds like you've got some aftermarket braided brake lines which are actually more durable than the stockers. If all you want to do is replace the rotors-messing w/ the lines is not required-just remove the 2 mounting bolts & slide off & support.I would rec. pushing the pads back a bit first,as this makes caliper r&r much easier.
Thanks for the reply. Can anyone post a pic of what type of brake line they have connected to the back of their front brake calipers and where it connects to the holder on the back of the strut.
Thanks,
