How accurate is the oil level indicator?

The book says each bar is approximately .26% of a quart. Has your experance shown this to be correct?

Yes, but my limited experience ('03 tt) is that the indicator actually will indicate lower 3 - 4minutes after an initial reading taken soon after bringing the car to rest. I talked to my mechanic (29 yrs experience) about this. His recommendation - don't let it make you crazy. Keep the oil level about 1/4 quart low when you fill it so that heat expansion won't cause an over-fill, and fill it up to that level when it is about a quart low. Add the oil slowly (you need to do this anyway to avoid a spill). I add about 1/4 quart at a time, and check the level at each 1/4 quart interval. BTW, I do not track or xcross.

Your wrench is spot on. On the dry sump systems the system will expand under heavy use. I always run mine a little low as the system can be over filled more than under. The dry sump system is always moving oil. I have seen people run 5 quarts and not destroyed their motor. The constant movement makes the level not so critical in this type of setup. In all the electronic version is pretty good.
