Who has a Nissan GTR as well ?
Yup spoke to Jose and Felipe already. Beautiful car and modded/maintained right. How you been? How's the car?
Cmon Neil... tell us how you really feel?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the GTR. Mechanically, moddability and driving dynamics wise? Do you see maintenance as a issue? I think you've modded quite a few and your feed back would be much appreciated. I read on a GTR forum that they "recomend" both F/R brakes to be changed at the same time. Same thread said brake job was 8K !
There are sure a lot of used ones out there F/S.

We have done quite a few of those, I believe we have over 30 GTR packages on the roads today.
On the stock transmission, we have been able to modify the GTR to ~700awhp, with our p800 tuning package, and they have lived through daily driving, numerous track events, you name it. I am not saying that they are "cheap" to maintain nor that they do not have mechanical issues that have haunted its past. I am not sure off hand the cost of the GT2 brake overhaul, but it is not much less than that, if not more, I would imagine?
Driving dynamics, at stock power levels the car may seem very tame and easy to track hard and achieve very excellent lap times compared to the same situation in a different ride, however at higher power levels, and this is coming from a conversation with one of our customers, you have to drive the car, once ruled out as a possibility for GTR owners to do
The p800 does 0-60 in 2.8x seconds without launch control...that, along with proper torque mapping keeps the trans running smoothly.
As discussed in many of these GTR vs. X threads, the GTR is either a love it or hate it vehicle, nothing in between, which brings up the old phrase "to each his own", and it certainly shows true.
I do not blindly defend one make or model, I support what the platform is capable of and support our customers and their goals with that platform.

I have both and l think they both bring something different to the mix. Stock to stock I think the GTR is easily the quicker of the two, and I personally much prefer the trans in the GTR to the 6 speed in my Porsche. Whatever short comings there is or has been with the GTR tranny will be worked out with stronger parts and such and before long all manufactures performance cars will have some variance of this type of tranny in their cars as an option, as clutch's and manual shifting really is becoming outdated with technology not to mention the brutal traffic in most cities. If I could only have 1 car I would still take the Porsche because I prefer its looks and the size of the Porsche suits me better as well and I just like the 911 platform. The GTR offers quality and a lot of technology and a lot of performance for the money, and if you haven't driven one you ought to as its an awesome car!
Couldn't agree with your more. Out of the box the GTR is a monster and a bargain price (think Vette ZO6). I've run against two of them and they are a real handful to keep up with. Although I also like the automanual tranny in the GTR better, if you opt not to disable the launch control at the dealer, they wont even cover the drive train under warrany. (Even Porsche isn't that ****.) The GRR is very difficult to mod as the factory ECU black box pretty much controls everything in the car (Think HAL 9000..."Sorry Dave you cannot stop at Starbucks because you've been driving over 65mph and drinking coffee will distract you"). The car styling resembles an Infinity G37. Nissan should have put the GTR drivetrain in a 350Z. Then they would have had something that had looks to match the performance. (It's very disappointing with all the design talent of the Japanese car companies they's only really come up with three outstanding the designs...the orginal Z car the new Z car and the NSX.)

Great Ad and so true

I remember seeing the prototype photos and thinking "they wont build that" because of how futuristic it looked, well they stayed pretty close to the prototype styling, and I do like how they look. They definitely grew on me being around them as much as I am, which makes me think that if someone was to go into the showroom and walk around it for 10 minutes, they wouldn't get the full effect the car can have on you, it's like a movie that you watch once and go "yeah it was decent", then you watch it again with a friend, then again and again, and pretty soon its one of your top 10 movies... Maybe a stretch but JMO.

+1. I was always a fan of the early and mid 90's R35's. When this car came out, I thought they dropped the ball. I didn't like the car, Keeping in mind I have not had the opportunity to drive one yet, they are growing on me.
Well my GTR is an 09 and it had the launch control update (it limits launch to about 2800 vs 4500rpms) done before it hit the showroom. Nissan did the update a couple months after the first cars came out because of the tranny issues. There was also a class action lawsuit against Nissan and they eventually did fix most of the broken trannys under warranty and the LC update has seemed to fix most, if not all tranny issues that plagued most of the early cars. As far as looks go I have a black car and I like the looks, and its funny initally I thought they should have made the GTR out of a Z car also but not anymore as I personally really like the GTR's looks.
Two things ..... I HATE HATE HATE when people bring up the transmission issues. They have been fixed and will most likely not be an issue going forward.
I also agree with you on the looks of the GTR. It has great presence and I think from the rear its one of the better looking cars on the road.
I was not a fan of the GTR when I saw pictures of them. But first time I saw one in person, I absolutely loved the presence of the car. Not for everyone I know... but if your a car guy the GTR cannot be discounted as one heck of a machine....

Some angles with big wheels it looks really good. Looks retarded with 18's on it though, like mexi-cali hydrolic hoopties.
