2004 Cab in SF: Caveat Emptor

About a month ago I found a 2004 Turbo Cab that looked promising. I went up to see it, drove it, made an offer. It was declined. Two days later a price was agreed upon over the phone contingent on a PPI being done.

They said they'd take it to a place to have the PPI done up in The City that I picked. It was in the afternoon so the shop only got about half way though - the on-the surface-examination. The PPI shop needed the car for another hour or so, but the seller came and got the car back since the car would have to be out of their possession overnight. No real problems so far.

That evening the seller calls me up and tell me that he's got a buyer for it with the money and ready to take it without a PPI. He's trying to push me to waive the second half of the PPI. I advised him that he'd better take that other offer.

The car reappeared on eBay tonight. Same seller. Same original asking price.

If you happen to be looking at a gray on black 2004 Turbo Cab in San Francisco, and are interested, PM me and I'll share what I know.

Regards,
John

If I'm not mistaken that car has been on CL for the past month. He started at almost $69K if I remember correctly. The seller usually has a few cars that look like they were bought at Auction - He had a Blue RS4 advertised for along time and kept dropping the price - I know that car was purchased at Manheim.

From what I could tell he works at the T-dealership and buys higher end cars at auction, drives them for while and then sells them.

If I'm not mistaken this car has the X-50 package.

Besides the seller having a suspect background, buying a Cab in San Francisco (the City proper) is like dropping your GF off at a biker rally with no clothes. Something bad is going to happen. They don't call them rag tops for nothing cuz they've all had a sharp object put to them to see what's inside. In San Francisco this is not considered a crime because the "insert the blank"...... homeless, I hate you cus you have more money than I do, you took my parking place, socalist, urban terrorist, keep your yuppie car out of my neighborhood, or self righteous member of the proletariat, has the god given right to trash your car. If you're so naive to file a police report, the desk sargent looks at you like you're the dumbest human on earth. Ask me how I know. I lived there for 50 years and had I Cab the I never let out of my sight or alway had a beater to drive around.

That would be the one. Grey with black interior, x50, low miles. Seems good, but with small visible defects that indicate that it has lived a somewhat hard life at the hands of somebody who didn't care that much. And then it got in the hands of that T-dealership.
