I would definitely prefer to see Porsche evolve the 911 to a flat-8, more consistent with their heritage. Of course the 908 was an air-cooled flat-8, with only two valves per cylinder, SOHC and in the 1967 FIA racing rules, no more than 3L; but with a flat-8 with water-cooling, four valves per cylinder, DOHC and easily 5L displacement, the 911 would live on. Then with twin turbo's, it would be a complete beast.

Porsche still has at least one or two more generations on current flat 6 technology. The Normal cars will get 380, S cars will get 420 and GT3/RS will get 450/480...

add 20-30 HP for the next generation...

And YES I like the LS conversion. The Chevy V8 is lighter than the porsche flat 6.

A lot more than an LS1 thats for sure. The LS1 swap is popular with the 944 turbo guys because the motor is virtually identical in weight as the stock 2.5L turbo with dressings. I always hated having a fully dressed 996TT motor on the stand, talk about some serious weight hanging there.

thought i would drop an update

the car is running and the interior is done , the thing is a blast to drive with only 378 RWHP , it sounds a bit louder than what i would like , but that is just temporary untill the turbos get installed.

i also got the new longblock ready to install, just waiting for the turbo's to arrive and start installing them.

other than that , the car drives great , accelerates in any gear , does not overheat even in stop and go traffic with the AC on,,,, so i guess life is good :P

I thought about doing this a LONG time ago, with a late 70's/early 80's model. Couldn't find one with a good chassis and shot engine at the time though.

Renegade V8 Porsches have been in Kit Car Magazine several times back in the 90's when I was contemplating building a GT40 kit.
