OEM 996TT Exhaust 1 or 2 pieces?

Does anyone know if the OEM 996TT exhaust (muffler portions) is 1 or 2 pieces? Do exhaust gasses go through the flex joint (circled in red below)?

No, it doesnt' as far as I now. Each side of the muffler is hollow and has a tube snaked through it then comes out the back and is what you tip is on.

By the looks of pictures of stock system cut-up (TJW mod thread) the exhaust does NOT cross over/flow through the flex joint.

I believe they are connected for strength because the stupid stock muffler is so heavy. You have 2 cats ( 300 cel ) each on each side of the muffler. Then there is an open area after the last cat where the exhaust tube snakes through and then out the back. A lot of wasted space and un-needed weight w/ a stock muffler ( IMO ). The TJW mod is a great way of at lease making your car sound better if you can't get a after market system.
Do a search for the mod, there are some pics and a step by step write up in another thread about it as well.
