Weight Saving - Aircon

Has anybody simply unplugged and removed the electronic aircon module in the 996 TT Centre console to save weight ?

Won't save much weight. The real weight is in the A/C compressor, the lines to/from it and the A/C condensors and the heat exchanger in the dash and of course the condensors themselves.

Even then not much weight savings unless you're after every ounce. Roughly completely removing the AC saves approx. 20lbs.

IIRC there's a comment on the absence of AC in the new Boxster Spyder and how much weight it "saves" in either an issue of Excellence that covers this car or perhaps in the latest issue of 911 & Porsche (UK published) magazine.

Sincerely,

Macster.
