Heck, look at the effect downforce has on acceleration between the GT3 and GT3RS below.
GT Purely Porsche magazine tested the two cars at the Millbrook Proving Ground and Bedford Autodrome with the same driver, one after the other.
0-60:
GT3 - 4.5
GT3RS - 4.4
0-100:
GT3 - 9.9
GT3RS - 9.6
0-150:
GT3 - 23.1
GT3RS - 23.2
60-150:
GT3 - 18.6
GT3RS -18.8
100-150:
GT3 - 13.2
GT3RS - 13.6
Note the effect the GT3RS's large rear wing/increased drag has on it's high-speed acceleration. Even though the significantly lighter RS is quicker than the GT3 from 0-100, at speed the GT3 catches the RS and eventually passes it. The GT3 is actually faster than the RS from both 0 to 150 mph as well as 100-150. Imagine the difference between the two at 200 mph. Drag would be exponentially increased.
Now, consider that the difference in downforce between a 6GT2 and 6TT is drastically greater than the difference in downforce between a 7GT3 and 7GT3Rs (both of which have large rear wings).
The 996TT is a slicker car, with far less drag, than a GT2, GT3, or GT3RS.

good points. I'd like gto see a run like that between a stock X50 and a GT2. Weight is an issue though.
