Rollbar Installation question

I purchased a Techquipment OEM rollbar to install in the TT. We removed the interior (seats, console, rearview mirror) to assist in the installation process. The rollbar is basically in, however the front mounting site is impinged by the carpeting. Do we need to remove/cut the carpeting out in order to install the rollbar.
Any feedback by someone who has tackled this would be appreciated.

Thanks Todd
